The objective was to install engineered timber flooring that enhanced both the heritage features of the original home and the clean lines of the modern extension. The flooring needed to provide a seamless connection between old and new while complementing the custom stained hardwood joinery, skirting and curved staircase detail.
Our Approach
Wooden Floors Melbourne installed 190mm engineered European oak boards in a Smoke Grey finish using a straight plank layout across approximately 90m². Careful preparation of the subfloor ensured every board was laid with precision, while close attention was given to integrating the flooring with the custom curved staircase and surrounding architectural features.
Challenges and Solutions
One of the project’s biggest challenges was achieving the required subfloor tolerances for the P-50 shadow line finish and stained hardwood skirting. With virtually no room for error around the perimeter, meticulous subfloor preparation was essential. By ensuring the levels were perfectly consistent before installation, the team delivered the clean, seamless finish the project demanded.
Outcome
The completed flooring brings warmth and continuity to the home, successfully tying together the Edwardian frontage and contemporary extension.
